Remembering and Olde Friend, Marshalia Ranch Golf Course
I went out to the base golf course today (Marshalia Ranch) to check it out, take a few swings, and enjoy the peace and serenity that is still present there despite the closure and conditions, It was a sad and surreal experience for me, but I left with a great sense of peace and was filled with great memories and thoughts of bygone days, great times and good friends. It is still a beautiful place!!
I believe it was one of the best facilities in the world, right here in our own backyard. The word on the fairway is there are plans in the works to restore the facility and once again have golf at the site, so keep your ear to the wind.
In the event that doesn’t happen I am hoping to have my power ball ticket come in so I can buy the property, restore it to it’s heyday, and offer free golf, free beer, a sleeve of Pro Vs for each player, and dinner at the Hitching Post after the round for everyone!
Keep your fingers crossed for my ticket! Until then, let’s all look back with fond memories of a great olde friend.
On learning golf………
The Toski Philosophy for learning golf
Great teachers like Mr. Bob Toski and Laird Small try to instill the concept that you need to feel it, not think it.
I want you to play the game as if you were throwing the ball around the course. Just plan the shot and let it fly. The Toski Philosophy is about the full enjoyment of this great game. Relax, have fun, enjoy the environment, the challenge, and your friends. Learn to play better by understanding and practicing solid fundamentals, developing feel, timing, rhythm, balance, routine, self-control, comfort and confidence.
The goal is to look for common denominators of all of the great players and teachers. Identify what habits and methods they share and narrow it down to the most important keys. Hogan focused on five, Nicklaus 6, Snead 4, etc KEEP IT SIMPLE!
By observing all of the great instructors and players, it is clear that they keep it simple, and key on the most important concepts and habits. The rest will run its course with personal tendencies and mannerisms. If you can filter out all of the baloney, terminology and fancy theories, and focus on basic fundamentals, timing, balance and rhythm, you will do just fine!
PS Don’t forget to practice your short game!!
Have fun,
Bob K
