Three Keys to Success Series: Interviews with the Best Players in the World!
Tips from the PGA Tour/Champions Tour this month featuring…Vijay Singh
Last week I had the good fortune of spending some time discussing golf with the great Vijay Singh at the Genesis Open. I’ve observed his game for years, and he is always focused and committed to his practice and round, and not usually accessible. The timing was right. He was satisfied that his work was done, and he came over and was very friendly and willing to offer his thoughts and advice. During this time he discussed his blend of “Old School” fundamentals and feel for the game, and a willingness to use all of the available “New School” technology to be the best he can be. He suggested we should all do the same.
Vijay’s also offered three keys to having a solid short game for our junior golfers. His thoughts are pretty universal and support the idea that establishing and practicing basic fundamentals, having a good routine and developing tempo will result in success around the greens. He talked of the importance of keeping your head still, controlling ball position, and working on the flow and rhythm aspects of the short game. He continued by saying “the most important thing any player, young or old can do is be willing to put the time and effort in if you want to become a good player.”
I think this is great advice for all of us.
Vijay is a world-class player and a first class person! He is another great example of the class, character and giving the spirit of the players on the PGA Champions Tour.
If you get the chance, go to a PGA Tour, Champions Tour, or LPGA Tour event. You will really enjoy the golf experience and probably improve your own game simply by watching these great players. So let’s go out and spend some time practicing these ideas, and start playing better golf!
Don’t forget, every Saturday at 1:30 (juniors) and 2:30, OSGS host free golf clinics for all Blind and Disabled golfers, regardless of experience.
